Brief political rant
November 11, 2008 by Andy Martin · 2 Comments
Last week during the election, we took the kids to the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland in Anaheim. We made sure to do early voting to do our part as citizens of this country, and here in Arizona one of the items on the ballot we felt strongly about was Proposition 102. Basicially the same thing as Proposition 8 in California, though gay marriage was still not allowed here so it differed in that it wasn’t reversing it like Prop 8 was doing. Having friends and coworkers that are gay, I was against 102. Even if I didn’t have friends and coworkers that were gay, though, it’s a matter of civil rights and I would still be against it. While we were at Disneyland the day before the election, there was a really cool bit of skywriting, kind of dot-matrix style. As it cleared some of the trees and we could see it, we could read “Save Traditional Marriage”. Sick that they would do that directly over Disneyland, who also opposed Prop 8. The Governor opposed Prop 8. Apple opposed Prop 8. Yet both it and Prop 102 here in Arizona passed. This morning, I saw a video that I think says what I’m still feeling about that much better than I could ever express. Read more
Here are your new 2010 Prius pictures!
October 16, 2008 by Andy Martin · Leave a Comment
Our friends over at PriusChat.com posted up some leaked final pictures of the new 2010 Prius. Personally, I think the exterior changes are pretty cool (gets more to the Shuttlecraft look), but I’m still skeptical on the interior changes. The new dashboard display looks cool, but the center console still has me scratching my head so far. More pictures after the break: Read more

Toyota leaks sneak peek teaser for 2010 Prius
October 10, 2008 by Andy Martin · 2 Comments
Folks from the Prius development team posted the first official teaser for the 2010 Prius on a Prius enthusiast forum I’m a member of, PriusChat. It’s not much yet, not a shot of the car itself, and there’s some discussion as to what exactly it is we’re seeing, though it really boils down to one of two possibilities. Read more
“$3 Million Overhead Projector” fact checking
October 9, 2008 by Andy Martin · 9 Comments
Ok, this will be one of the only politcally related posts you see on this blog (other than, of course, comparing McCain/Palin to Tigh/Roslyn for the BSG ticket, but that was more humor than political). I normally don’t talk much politics as it tends to be an extremely personal thing to most people and feelings get hurt too easily over it. I keep my views and leanings to myself, unless there is a technological aspect to it that I can’t keep my mouth shut on (Net Neutrality, for one). That being said, I’m going to be really glad when this brutal election season is over, as I’m really tiring of crap like this from both sides Read more
Site redesign coming
October 2, 2008 by Andy Martin · Leave a Comment
Well, I’ve got about 6 weeks of blogging under my belt now and getting the hang of it. I even have my first official sci-fi book review coming in the next couple of weeks (being shipped to me now, will need a week or so to read it and write my impressions) so it appears I am officially entering the professional blogosphere. To that end, I’m going to be undergoing a pretty substantial site redesign in the coming weeks to give this blog a little more of a professional sheen to it. The podcast is still on the horizon, but I want to get my core blog set up first before I start trying to add my voice to the equation. For all of you that have stopped by and liked what you have seen so far, this is only the beginning. Keep coming back for more developments, and some of the best takes on tech news, new gadgets, and sci-fi topics on the web. Thanks for your support, and Namaste.

New I-35W bridge in Minneapolis full of tech, next generation bridge design
September 18, 2008 by Andy Martin · 2 Comments
My civil engineer sister would like this story, brought to me by my wife who is originally from Minneapolis. A little over a year ago, on August 1st, 2007, the bridge catastophically failed during rush-hour traffic, collapsing into the Mississippi River and it’s banks and killing 13 people, injuring 145. A tragic event, to say the least, that was attributed at least in part to structual deficiencies and the harsh climate of Minnesota (frigid winters and steamy, humid summers). The replacement bridge was put on a fast track, and amazingly opened today with some very impressive technology to ensure this kind of disaster does not happen again. Read more
Introducing a new feature
September 18, 2008 by Andy Martin · Leave a Comment
I couldn’t help but notice in going through some of the web stats, especially yesterday and even so far today, that a lot of you coming here hit the articles through Google searches looking for help. Specifically, around my review of “The Force Unleashed”, I’ve gotten a good number of search hits on “how do I defeat rogue jedi” and “rogue jedi help”, thing like that. So, I’ve decided to add a new category and occasional posting topic called “Tips and Tricks”, where I can answer questions that readers send in. How it works, after the jump. Read more
