What’s that again about video games helping you in real life?
September 29, 2008 by Andy Martin · Leave a Comment
Chalk this one up to someone putting too much credence into video game ability translating to real life ability. You know all those arguments out there that flight simulators can help you learn to fly? Rock Band 2 drum trainer can help you learn to play real drums? Grand Theft Auto games can help you carjack more successfully? Well, Carl Edwards of NASCAR fame learned the hard way that racing tricks in video games don’t always translate to the real world laws of physics. Details on the race and quotes after the jump. Another one for you other musician geeks out there
September 27, 2008 by Andy Martin · Leave a Comment
I absolutely love Think Geek, they are one of my favorite online stores to browse and get awesome funny geek stuff. My wife actually got me the Wi-Fi Detecting shirt, which I’ve worn out a couple of times to . . . well, interesting reactions from people. Anyway, I was catching up on my podcasts today, and saw this on GeekBrief.TV w/ Cali Lewis, and I couldn’t help but share. Read more
REALLY bad choice for the “I’m a PC” guy
September 26, 2008 by Andy Martin · 5 Comments
Ok, so I’m doing some spreadsheet work today at work and I need a good calendar template for Excel. I go to the Microsoft site, find one that I think will work, and I get a sidebar ad for their new “I’m a PC” campaign. Not a very good choice for their PC guy. I swear to God this isn’t Photoshopped, a simple print screen on my work laptop and pasted into MS Paint, saved as a jpg. WTF is Microsoft thinking? I mean, sure, he’s an internet meme and well known, but doesn’t exactly make me want to switch back from my Macbook Pro to a Vista machine…
Tyrol strikes again, reveals Cylon history
September 25, 2008 by Andy Martin · 2 Comments
io9 put out a major spoiler this morning that goes into the history of the Cylons from the current Battlestar Galactica series. Aaron Douglas apparently has a tough time keeping what he knows to himself these days (see previous entry on his comments at Dragon*Con), and in an interview with SFX Magazine, he dropped a huge bomb. Be careful, after the jump thar be spoilers.

Possibility of “Unbreakable 2″, Shyamalan back to form?
September 22, 2008 by Andy Martin · 2 Comments
I don’t know about you, but M. Night Shyamalan’s first movie, “The Sixth Sense” blew me away with the unexpected plot twist at the end, even with some of the gaping plot holes that were present. His second movie, “Unbreakable”, I really liked as 1) I’m a old-school comic book nerd, 2) it was a unique take on a real-life superhero orgin story, and 3) and awesome performance by Samuel L. Jackson (is there any other kind?). So, seeing this story in my reader this morning from io9 got me thinking Shyamalan might be ready for somewhat of a comeback if he doesn’t screw this one up too. New I-35W bridge in Minneapolis full of tech, next generation bridge design
September 18, 2008 by Andy Martin · 2 Comments
My civil engineer sister would like this story, brought to me by my wife who is originally from Minneapolis. A little over a year ago, on August 1st, 2007, the bridge catastophically failed during rush-hour traffic, collapsing into the Mississippi River and it’s banks and killing 13 people, injuring 145. A tragic event, to say the least, that was attributed at least in part to structual deficiencies and the harsh climate of Minnesota (frigid winters and steamy, humid summers). The replacement bridge was put on a fast track, and amazingly opened today with some very impressive technology to ensure this kind of disaster does not happen again. Read more
Introducing a new feature
September 18, 2008 by Andy Martin · Leave a Comment
I couldn’t help but notice in going through some of the web stats, especially yesterday and even so far today, that a lot of you coming here hit the articles through Google searches looking for help. Specifically, around my review of “The Force Unleashed”, I’ve gotten a good number of search hits on “how do I defeat rogue jedi” and “rogue jedi help”, thing like that. So, I’ve decided to add a new category and occasional posting topic called “Tips and Tricks”, where I can answer questions that readers send in. How it works, after the jump. Read more
