TiVo Premier and Premier XL announced

Last week, TiVo announced the long-awaited update to their TiVo HD named the TiVo Premier and Premier XL. I still have my trusty Series 2, but it’s been getting a little long in the tooth lately and couldn’t really keep up with all of the new ways of getting media and TV shows these days. Site redesign coming soon

I know I said I was back about a month or so ago, but I mean it this time Had some more personal issues crop up as I tried to fire this back up again, but now that I feel that I’ve gotten a lot of things put back together on the home and work front, I think it’s time that I pull a reboot here. Kind of like Star Trek, except that I can’t get a younger and more attractive person to play me.

Anyway, here’s what you can expect in the coming weeks. I am going to switch providers for this site, first off. I’ve learned a lot of things designing a site from scratch and using WordPress, but after not signing on for a month or two I again have massive updates I need to do on the backend with plugins and the core WordPress engine. I’m going to go to a easier-to-manage hosted solution, but still try to keep the custom-look that I worked to develop here.

Second, I’m going to keep doing the tech news and stories that I find interesting, sharing things I find with my own unique perspective added. Gadget reviews will still be high up there (got a bunch of new things to talk about here), as will reviews of sci-fi movies, TV shows, and the like. Games will still gather some attention here, but mostly around what I’m playing, what the kids are playing, and things that I’m looking forward to. Expect a dedicated World of Warcraft section, though not anywhere near in depth as some of the dedicated WoW sites. Just be about my experiences in game.

I’m going to add some other things as time permits as well, linking in to other social media sites so that you can enjoy the content I provide here in whatever form you like to use. Twitter, Facebook, Buzz, GDGT, Digg, if you already use any of these sites you’ll be able to see my stories easily. Even through a simple RSS update if that’s what floats your boat (which is usually my favorite way to get my stories, although it seems rather old-school these days). I still have a goal of doing a regular podcast of sorts that would go over some of the top things that I’d covered or topics that deserve longer attention.

Anyway, a lot of work to do here. Keep coming back as the site goes through its changes again, and GTT will become a great place to get news, reviews, and comments on tech geek life in general.

Ok, so after about an hour of site maintenance, upgrading all the plug-ins and WordPress backend, I think we’re about ready to go again. Things have settled down to the point that I think we can start moving again here.

Brief political rant

Last week during the election, we took the kids to the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland in Anaheim. We made sure to do early voting to do our part as citizens of this country, and here in Arizona one of the items on the ballot we felt strongly about was Proposition 102. Basicially the same thing as Proposition 8 in California, though gay marriage was still not allowed here so it differed in that it wasn’t reversing it like Prop 8 was doing. Having friends and coworkers that are gay, I was against 102. Even if I didn’t have friends and coworkers that were gay, though, it’s a matter of civil rights and I would still be against it. While we were at Disneyland the day before the election, there was a really cool bit of skywriting, kind of dot-matrix style. As it cleared some of the trees and we could see it, we could read “Save Traditional Marriage”. Sick that they would do that directly over Disneyland, who also opposed Prop 8. The Governor opposed Prop 8. Apple opposed Prop 8. Yet both it and Prop 102 here in Arizona passed. Here are your new 2010 Prius pictures!

Our friends over at PriusChat.com posted up some leaked final pictures of the new 2010 Prius. Personally, I think the exterior changes are pretty cool (gets more to the Shuttlecraft look), but I’m still skeptical on the interior changes. Ok, this will be one of the only politcally related posts you see on this blog (other than, of course, comparing McCain/Palin to Tigh/Roslyn for the BSG ticket, but that was more humor than political). I normally don’t talk much politics as it tends to be an extremely personal thing to most people and feelings get hurt too easily over it. I keep my views and leanings to myself, unless there is a technological aspect to it that I can’t keep my mouth shut on (Net Neutrality, for one). Site redesign coming

Well, I’ve got about 6 weeks of blogging under my belt now and getting the hang of it. I even have my first official sci-fi book review coming in the next couple of weeks (being shipped to me now, will need a week or so to read it and write my impressions) so it appears I am officially entering the professional blogosphere. To that end, I’m going to be undergoing a pretty substantial site redesign in the coming weeks to give this blog a little more of a professional sheen to it. The podcast is still on the horizon, but I want to get my core blog set up first before I start trying to add my voice to the equation. For all of you that have stopped by and liked what you have seen so far, this is only the beginning. First “Android” phone official from T-Mobile
